Vacate wetlands or face arrest -RDC warns

Masindi Resident District Commissioner (RDC),Emmy Ngabirano has issued a warning to the wetland encroachers to vacate them or else they will be arrested and arraigned in courts of law.
The warning comes months following the Presidential directive of evicting people operating in wetlands.
He said, starting with next week,an operation will be mounted by the environmental police assisted by the sister security agencies to forcefully evict those found in wetlands.
He however,asked fellow leaders to comply for the success of the exercise.
The RDC,sounded the warning yesterday during a training on the Parish Development Model (PDM) SACCO operationalization,that was held at the Masindi Municipal Council Chambers.
While training the core team of PDM,aMaster trainer from the PDM Secretariat, Jackson Katusiime,said SACCO leaders will each get asmart phone from government to assist them in carrying out PDM SACCO funds transactions digitally.
He also said, government will only fund seven priority enterprise groups which among others include; poultry, fish farming, piggery, food crops, zero grazing dairy cows, fruits and coffee.
Speaking in the same training,the Deputy Chief Administrative Officer (DCAO), Robert Abia Owilli,lauded the Master trainer for equipping knowledgeable skills to the PDM core team, saying that this will enable them implement the PDM activities effeciently.
Speaking during her closing remarks,the Municipal Deputy Mayor, Betty Kyomuhendo,asked the facilitator to forward the concerns raised by members to the responsible officers so that the anomalies can be addressed.
She also implored leaders to adjust to the on going changes in government programs for their success during implementation.
