Council in Masindi has passed a resolution to start Window of Life Babies home to help improve on the problem of child neglect and child abuse in the District.
The facility to be established in Kitonozi village in Bwijanga Sub County, Masindi District will start by accommodating 10 children at early child age then they will later join the Government aided primary schools for post primary education.
Presenting the motion before the District Council sitting that was held on Tuesday October 4, 2011 in the District Chambers, Hon Kihika Mary Mujumura commonly called the “Iron lady” in Masindi, Secretary Health, Child Welfare and Community Based services informed the meeting that the Babies home will have a Governing body and a proposal has been submitted to Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development to have them come and verify the premises to see whether they have the required conditions of a Standard Babies’ Home.
The Babies home will be funded by Windows of Life Poland Well wishers in Kenya, Uganda, Austria, Fundraising drives and community contribution and all admissions of the children will be by admission on court order and the windows of Hope will give startup capital for the children to start their own life.
The facility on five acres of land will have a play ground, Health Centre II, Early Childhood Development Centre and children village apartments and will start with the 10 children that are currently being housed in the Masindi Municipality.
Kihika says the facility will acquire land to carry out commercial farming for the sustainability of the Babies home and plans are under way to have it incorporated in the District Budget for funding in future.
